Next weekend I will be reliving the good ol' days down at Camp Meridale! I cannot wait! When I was a girl scout, I spent several weeks there each summer. It was like a home away from home. I loved every minute I spent there. So much that (being a tomboy and not caring about my appearance) I often went a few days without washing my hair. Washing, drying and fixing my hair took too much time. They were lucky I even bathed! I was having so much fun, I didn't want to miss anything. I also remember once not telling anyone that I had been stung by a wasp (I'm very allergic) because I knew they would call my Mom. Someone noticed how swollen and red my arm was and I ended up leaving camp. I wasn't happy about that at all. Thursday, May 5, 2011

You're right B! Thank God It's Friday!!!
I didn't go to spin class today. Wes & I both were really feeling it. I did run yesterday, so that added to my aches. Instead, I had lunch with an old friend today. Kim called me. It was quite enjoyable I must say. I was uncertain at first. I'm not known for maintaining quality friendships with people. For some reason, I'd always thought that Kim and I wouldn't be able to reconnect. We hadn't really talked one on one since right after school. But we had a pleasant conversation and a nice lunch. Hopefully, we can do it again. She works across the road from the station. It was also my third time at Deli on 5th this week....

Nothing ever changes in a small town.
First off, Mom, Dad & I had a good time this morning at the Memory Walk. We got there an hour early because the time on the website was wrong. That's okay. There were a total of eight Team Inez members. We were the second largest team. West Lauderdale High School's HOSA club was there with about 20. I won first place for most donations raised by an individual. I got a trophy... (I've got pictures. I'll load them later.)
After the walk, I went home to quickly shower and we headed for Quitman for a BBQ with Wes' parents. Kevin & Kim were there with Dalton. He's 10 months old. Precious... (I'll load those pics tomorrow)
Then off to the reunion....
Since I got home from the reunion tonight, I've been thinking about the meaning of the word. Reunion. It means a seeing someone/something you haven't seen in a while. Reminiscing about the days of old and catching up on the times in between. Well, that didn't happen... At all. It was like I stepped back into high school. First of all, I felt really bad for Amber. She put a lot of time (& money) into this. There were only nine "graduates" there. Out of the nine, there were two couples. (Wes was actually the only one there who DIDN'T attend Enterprise.) The owners of the building kind of jipped Amber by promising live music, but then reneged on that a few days before. Also, Amber was given a lot of "maybes" and had to estimate for the caterer. Well, ALL of those maybes turned into No's. She ended up in the hole big time.
When I got there, everyone was standing around talking. I tried to mingle around, but got the cold shoulder a few times, just like old times. Instead of asking each other how are things and where are you know? The questions I heard were where did you go last night, and why didn't you call me back the other day. Questions that you'd ask someone you see often. I suddenly realized that I was the only one asking the typical reunion questions. So for me, I was at a reunion. To everyone else, it was simply another get together. I felt alone. I felt like Wes looked. Bored and not "knowing" anyone, displaying that "courtesy laugh" you give when you really don't want to be in the conversation. I also came to realize that I was the only one there who left Enterprise and never went back. Everyone else wasn't there for a reunion. They reunite everyday. At the school when they drop off their kids and see their former classmates as teachers. At church every Sunday. On Saturdays at the pee-wee football or baseball game their kids play together on. I'm not in any of those things.
I was expecting a room full of friendly, mature, grown-up faces, and "What are you doing now?" questions. I was prepared with my camera, pictures, printed cards with my info on them and a notebook to collect addresses. I never took my camera out of its case. I showed Kim & Michael a picture of Pete. That was it. Funny how these things turn out. I was looking forward to reuniting with folks and I came out with nothing. Not even an address or phone number. The only positive is that I've reunited with Amber. And that was just by luck of running into her at the fair last week. I don't yet know what to say about all this. I'm a bit confused, but I know I shouldn't be. I'm not going to dwell on it. Actually, it somewhat reiterates the reasons for several life choices I've made throughout the years, if that makes any sense.
I'm going to bed now. I had 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night and I have to be up early for Sunday School and church. (The banana bread is very good by the way!) More on all this later. I'll load pictures tomorrow.

Here's a pic from Saturday night's Riverdogs Game. Wes & I got tickets from the station. It was supposed to be "Live 5 Night." We were the only folks there (besides two other people--one producer and one production). In the back are Me and Chad Watson(morning weather).
Next is Jenny Merrithew(morning producer), Harve Jacobs(Reporter), and Bill Burr(Morning Anchor).

Bad weather outside, Great movies on TV
I'm feeling better, but still can't taste. I can smell a little bit. The garlic salt is coming through now. Litter box is still smell-less. So far, I've eaten half a loaf of bread. My ears seem less stopped up, but not much. It comes and goes I think.
Went to Brandon's pool party yesterday. We were there for about an hour and a half before the thunder and lightning run everybody off. Not much to report, just station gossip. The pool at his apartment is only three feet deep.

tasteless
My hearing is the most annoying thing. I feel like I'm in a glass phone booth and everything and everyone else is outside. I'm struggling to listen through the glass. They pop often as well. I'm constantly swallowing to try to clear them out like I'm on an airplane that's climbing and climbing and never equals out. (Chewing gum doesn't work either). It really bothers me at night when I'm trying to sleep. Anyway, hopefully the meds will get rid of all this. Then I'll take Wes out to Gilligan's and have a feast!!
Tomorrow, (health pending) I'm going to Brandon's (producer) birthday pool party. There aren't any softball games this weekend because it's Mother's Day. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see my Mumm. So...

Stuff...
Bobby and Masayo & the twins are coming home next week. I'm (uh uh) sick on Friday. I'm driving down there on Thursday after work. I can't wait!! I'm in desperate need of a vacation!
Okay, I know I'm not the greatest softball player, but it's become increasingly obvious that I have become "that girl." You know, the "older" one who's loyal to the team, is always there and never complains?? (Well, until now.) Since it's a co-ed team and you legally have to have at least 5 girls on the field, they just through one of "us" in the catcher's position. I have been the catcher for every game. All last season and this one. I sit back there and listen to the umpire rant about having to be there on a Sunday and watch as everyone else makes plays and has a good time. I'm tired of it. I am perfectly okay with putting better players in more important positions, but when we are winning by 20 points, it would be nice to be given a chance to do something else. Oh yeah, on a less selfish note, we won both games last week, while playing with only four girls. If we are short one player (at least 5 of each is the minimum), we have to take an "out" every time we bat. So basically we are playing with two outs while the other team plays with three.
Wednesday, Wes and I went back to Barbara Jean's in Mt. Pleasant. I Love Crab Cakes!!! On Thursday we went shoe shopping. (HEHEHE) Wes is a lot pickier than me!! It took him a lot longer than me to pick out his shoes!! (About a dozen pairs and 3 or 4 stores!!) And he says he hates shopping!! I told him I was going to say that!!! :) :) :) :)
We're trying to decide where to fly to for our vacation. (IT'S TWO MONTHS FROM TODAY!!!!) We might fly into another country and take a train into Germany. We're thinking Amsterdam, Zurich or Brussels. It depends on how full the flights are.
PS: LOVE YOU BJ! I'M PRAYING FOR YOU!!

Bridge Run Fun
Wes dropped me off about a mile past the starting line. I had to walk back to the start. This is because all the roads were blocked off. This is the bridge over Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant.
These are the first wheelchair racers. They started at 7:30. There were hundreds of people who were still walking to the startline, including myself. There were about a dozen wheelchair competitors. They have to qualify for the race.
This is Monte! He works with me in the mornings. The other guy with his back to me is Brandon. He's my 5am producer. Monte took a picture of me and Brandon. I'll get it from him and post it next week.
Here's the start line. Everyone is corralled into "shoots." The elite runners were first. These are the professional and olympic runners that are invited and even paid to participate. This mostly includes the Kenyan and Ethiopian runners that always win. Today's male and female winners were both from Kenya. When you register, you have to report your projected finish time. The runners finishing under 40 minutes are after the elite runners, then those finishing under 1 hr, and so on. I was in the 1Hr shoot, even though I finished at 1:09. This is how they lined everyone up. This way all the slower runners and walkers won't slow down those who are serious runners.
There are people who dress up in ridiculous costumes for the race. These guys were Fred and Wilma Flintstone. There are also people who dress in drag. I saw several guys with "box" cars made from cardboard with numbers and stickers on them, like nascar cars.
The start line in the distance with all the "faster" runners lined up in front of me. Notice the clouds. Luckily, it never rained.
This is where I started. The crane in the distance is holding a bank of speakers. It was pretty loud. Throughout the race, there were radio station trucks blaring their music.
Around Mile 2, heading up the bridge. I had just stopped and talked to Wes. I was running when I was taking these pictures. I held the camera up above my head.
Almost to the top. On the way down.
Looking behind me heading down. I didn't take anymore pictures until I finished. Maybe it was the runner's high. It went by so fast. I was "in the zone." :)
Finish line as seen from Marion Square. It was shoulder to shoulder for several blocks around Marion Square. 40,000 people on foot within a few blocks. That's the population of Meridian jammed inside an area smaller than the city limits of Enterprise! There were people at the water and fruit stops who were throwing oranges and apples at people because they couldn't get to the table. I did manage to run in to two other people I work with. One was running and the other was volunteering at one of the medical stations. When I headed home, I realized that I didn't have a house key. We parked my car downtown last night and all I had in my pack (along with my dead phone) was the car key. I was lucky to get the apartment manager to unlock my door.
I'll get the pictures that Wes took this morning and post them tomorrow. Probably while I am icing my legs after the softball games....
Happy Running!
