Goodbye to good television

The Memorial service for good television was held last night on ABC. Fitting that it actually ended in a "memorial service." You always feel a sense of disappointment when something great ends. How else could it end though?? Although I didn't like the fact that they were "all dead," it didn't disappoint. I cried. I love the couples reuniting. Sawyer & Juliet, the best! There are still questions that went unanswered too, but do they really matter since they are all dead? I'm sure there are hundreds of theories already floating around. I take on it is this: Yes, they are all dead. They didn't all die together. I'm thinking that they "met" at the church when they were all dead. Some died in the crash, some may have lived their lives and died naturally. The "funeral" was everyone going "into the light" together with the one(s) they loved. Obviously we know that Desmond and Penny were not on the original plane. Maybe Penny lived a long life and died in later years and joined them as her younger self. It was as if they were living in some purgatory/dream state and when the last one died, their memories changed, and they became aware of their path. Maybe they went back to 1974 so the ones still alive could "live" for 30+ years in real life. Where was Michael and Walt? Why wasn't Lepidus or Miles there? Charlotte and Daniel met again, but are they still alive? Was Ben just a tortured soul or ghost that could never find his path? Is/Was his job to lead others in the right direction? Where did Richard Alpert go?

Does any of this even matter? No....

Best & Worst Shows on Television

EDIT------- Entertainment News shows like Inside Edition, Access Hollywood, Insider, Entertainment Tonight. Talk about CREATING DRAMA!!!

Pretty much everything on MTV & VH1- Why do we care what teenagers are doing in their spare time? Why do we care about rich teenagers 16Th birthday parties? Why do we care about how big celebrities houses are and how many cars they have? Why do we care about a random group of people living in a house together? Is it because it makes us feel better about our normal lives? No. Stop watching people!!! If you keep watching, they'll make more and more of these ridiculous shows!! It's called Created Drama!! At the end of the show, are you entertained? Or are you mad at some character who cheated or lied or whatever? Does it really matter to you what they do? It shouldn't.

Conveyor Belt of Love & The Bachelor/Bachelorette- The lowest of the low. I really don't like dating shows. If any reality show it fake, it's dating shows. Although sometimes its fun to watch how naive people can be and how far people will go to be famous. But really. Do you really think that "true love" can be found on a show like this? Really? Common Sense, people.

Eastwick - Just plain dumb.

ALL celebrity reality shows-refer to the statement for VH1/MTV... Who cares about Paula Abdul's issues... How is this entertaining? Why do people think watching the Playboy girls is entertaining? Why are these people even considered celebrities? And what's the deal with this show called Million dollar real estate or something? Why is this even a show? Personally, I don't care about Hulk Hogan's daughter, Paris Hilton's best friends, who dates some weird guy named Flavor flave, Rayj, or Brett whatshisface, or what Lindsey Lohans parents are doing, or ..........

CSI: Miami- (Sorry Mom, it's just terrible!) I love crime dramas. They are entertaining. But this one is so bad, there's a group on facebook called "CSI: Miami haters," and another one called "Horatio Caine Haters," both of which I am a member of. I understand the concept of theatrical lighting. I think it can make or break a show/movie/play etc. But when you overdo it by having the orange and red sunshine come in all four sides of a building and have everyone look like they take daily baths in spray tan, you've gone a little overboard. I've never been to Miami, but I pretty sure there's only one sun and one moon and the same amount of daylight, just like everywhere else. Top that off with two of the most over dramatic, ridiculously naive and stupid actors I've ever seen! 1. David Caruso. Worst Actor on Television! Apparently his neck is broken and he's blind. Also, he can only speak in cliche's. 2. That black lady who plays the medical examiner. She's so ridiculous!! She talks to the dead bodies and acts so UGH!! It's like she's lived a sheltered life until now and all of a sudden, she's in the murder capital and "doesn't understand why someone would do such a thing." It's your job to see this everyday! You should be immune to it by now!! I just want to slap some modern sense into her! I get mad watching that show. It's a waste of time. I'd rather watch paint dry.

that Trailer remodeling show on CMT - First of all, it's a show about remodeling trailers. (Enough said, right?) Second, 30 seconds of the hosts voice is enough to make any southerner cringe. He fits the stereotype of dumb redneck all to well.

(personal dislike) - singing contest shows - Okay, I have to admit, I watched the first few seasons of American Idol. It was entertaining to watch people who thought they were the best singers ever make a fool of themselves. Now, every news and cable network has their own version and people are going on these shows with the intention of making a fool of themselves. It's not funny anymore. It's just sad.

(another personal dislike) - Craig Ferguson - I can't stand his voice and I don't think he's funny at all!

Okay, Alias will forever be the best show on television. It was cancelled years ago and to be honest, I'm glad. Dragging out a show like that for more the 5 or 6 seasons kills the storyline and turns it into mush. Shows like this should be short lived. I think it makes them even better. Another example is:

Lost - Now this is entertaining. (And yes, I know it's not real!) You take a real fear and create magic with it! Every one's afraid of being in a plane crash. Throw in a little "Lord of the Flies," and a few magical themes and you've got a great show. A show that makes you yearn for the next episode is a great show. At the end of last season, I thought I cannot wait 9 months to know what happens next! A show that has so many themes and mysteries that you have to watch it several times and each time you learn something else you didn't know... that's a great show. I'll hate to see it go off this season too, but I'm sure my curiosities will be satisfied by the end. (At least I hope they will be!)

Fringe - wicked cool! This show takes CSI a step further... into weirdness. I love it!!

CSI - enough said. Although I don't watch that much now that Grissom left. Another reason is because we have an old Tivo and another show of more importance comes on at the same time. (We're getting a new Tivo this week) CSI has become one of those shows that is on pretty much all the time on one station or another. Just flip the channels and you'll find it somewhere... Everyone airs it's syndicated version. It's always entertaining.

CSI: NY - same as CSI. Great show. Love Gary Sinese... He's an all around great actor (voice of the Marine commercials) And I should mention that neither CSI nor CSI:NY have over dramatic lighting or actors... (In CSI:NY, they use a lot of blue lighting filters, but it looks much more realistic than Miami.)

Criminal Minds - Excellent Crime Drama.

Intervention - Good real life show. Although I wish they would do a little more after the intervention at the end of the show. They should spend more time on the addicts after they've been through rehab. They occasionally have a "where are they now" show, which covers that, but sometimes, all you see is them still in rehab or just out. It would be interesting to see how they are doing one year later or something like that.

Amazing Race - The best reality contest show on TV. This show tests speed, compatibility and will. (Survivor does not.) The contestants actually have to work hard to stay in the game. It's not a popularity contest. And they get to see the world too.

Dirty Jobs - I just love Mike Rowe. He's so funny. I like to see the everyday Joe who gets dirty and works hard for a living. Mike makes that guy look like a genius by "trying" to do these everyday jobs.

On the Fence about:

Private Practice - I really like this show, but the problem I have with it is that the characters should be suicidal by now with all the drama and tragedies that goes on in their lives... sleeping with each other, sleeping with each others' parents (WT??), everybody have brain tumors, someones baby gets cut out of their belly (again, WT??), etc. Its just way to unrealistic for me.

Life on ABC....

I don't know if anyone has been watching "Life On Mars" on ABC. It began this season. It looked promising. It's about a NY cop who gets hit by a car and appears to be in some type of dream-like state. In reality he's in a coma. He is "transported" back to 1973. He lives in '73, still working as a cop. He meets his 7 year old self and his parents... He remembers career criminals, etc. It was pretty good for a while, but apparently the ratings weren't good. It eventually got cancelled, but ABC allowed them to create a finale. It aired last night. It was absolutely terrible!!! (Worse than the 4400) The story ended up with him and his '73 cop friends actually being astronauts traveling to (that's right) Mars in 2035. They're put in a sleep chamber for the journey and their vitals monitored. Only the main character has some kind of issue with something and his dreams trail off to 2008 and then to 1973. It was a really off-the-wall way of ending the show. It was so sudden and completely ridiculous! (You can watch in on hulu.com)

Anyway, We're leaving tomorrow for the BRIDGE RUN!!! I'm so glad to be getting out of here for a few days!! Can't wait!!

Stuff

This week at work was very slightly challenging. Just a little bit. We were live from the first Presidential Debate in Oxford on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It wasn't at all hard, but I felt like there was real news to present this time. Lindsey Brown, one of our reporters was there. She did a phenomenal job. She's going places. Working with good reporters makes the job easier and more fun. Anyway, it was a pleasant week. Unfortunately, there's no debate this week. Oh well.
Wes & I have taken a lazy weekend... again. Wes worked overnight on Friday night. I joined the gym at Riley's this week. I went while Wes was at work. Members have 24 hour access so I can go anytime. It gives me something to do and maybe I'll find motivation to run again. It's not as nice as Pivotal was in Charleston, but that's expected. There's a franchise fitness center right down the road that I thought about joining, but places like that don't stick around long in a small town like this one. On Saturday, we had a "date" night. Dinner and a movie.
"Amazing Race" and "Cold Case" started today. Ghost Whisperer and CSI starts this week as well. Heroes has already started (pretty good so far). We've been watching Fringe as well. It's pretty good. I ordered Season 4 of Lost the other day. It comes out December 9. Season 5 won't start until January. Oh, well.

CBS - ABC transition

I'm having withdrawals from my CBS "addiction"... Well, it's not quite an addiction. I have NOT missed the Price Is Right though. Not one bit. (I think Drew Carey is the worst game show host ever! Worse than John O'Hurley) I am missing the newly TiVo'd episodes of CSI, Cold Case and Without a Trace. Everything is in reruns now. What I am having trouble getting used to is the large number of "dumb" summer fill-ins. "I survived A Japanese Game Show," "Wipeout," and the like. I think all of us can do without "High school Musical - ...whatever..." There's nothing worth watching on ABC. (That is, except LOST-which doesn't begin until next year.)
I am looking foward to "Fringe," which is on FOX this season. That's the only new show I'm interested in.

Wes & I are having a cook-out at the house on Saturday. The fam is coming to see the house, now that it's livable. We're just doing the hot dog/hamburger thing. Hopefully it won't be too hot.

We also went to Northcrest last week. We bothed liked it. We went to Wade's Sunday School class. We'll probably go back next week.

Fort Marshall...FOR YOU MOM!!!

On Tuesday(my BIRTHDAY!), we (obviously) slept in. Wes & I both slept for nearly 14 hours. We went downtown and walked around a while. It was hot! We bought some pralines and then went to Barbara Jean's for my "birthday dinner." They have great crab cakes!!!

As we were coming home, we ran across two Army Wives shoots. One was at the Longshoreman's Association building. There were production trailers out there. We didn't take any pictures because it was on a busy road and there really wasn't anything picture-worthy. We took a short-cut through the old Navy Base and saw another AW sign. We followed them and came upon the "entrance" to "Fort Marshall," the fictional Army post. It was set up on an old entrance ramp to the base. All of this is plywood and paint.

This is the back side of the gate. Notice the wood beams holding them up. The security post in the middle is temporary also. There were cones everywhere and sprinklers watering the grass. It seemed as if it was just built.

Army Wives Season 2 Premiere

Okay, so I cried through half the episode! The only thing I didn't like is there was a lot of filler (review of the characters, bumps, etc) and the episode was much shorter than usual. So I won't spoil anyone's anticipation, I won't say who died, but I will say that I should have guessed it.

On to the guest appearances of my co-workers... The first reporter who asks "Can you confirm the number of casaulties?," is Marika Kelderman, one of our reporters. (Dark hair) The second female reporter is Erin Colgan. (Blond)
Also, when the actors are watching the news, the male anchor that you see and hear is Bill Sharpe, our main anchor. His voice is used many times throughout the show. There's another female anchor's voice used once or twice. That's Carolyn Murray, an anchor at Wes' station.

I also noticed that the girl that played Emmalin from last season is replaced by someone else. (IMDB)

Random things and an ENGAGEMENT!!!!

Had a great weekend with Mom & Dad. I haven't gone through all my pictures yet. I'll post them over the next few days.

We also learned this weekend that Josh is now engaged!!! CONGRATS!!! He and Amy will get married next summer.

An old friend and former co-worker has made her "reality show" debut. Aisha (Greer) Tyler works at WJCL in Savannah, the station featured in this seasons "Making News: Savannah Style" on the TV Guide channel. We worked together at WTOK several years ago. She recently got married.

I actually hit the ball!!

Pete, Kelly & I went to the Navy Base's driving range today. I have never been to a golf course before. I have never swung a real golf club. I was horrible. Kelly is good. Her sister plays for her school's team. Pete's pretty good too. He laid down two clubs for me as a guide. I think it helped, I don't know. I hit maybe 10 or 12 balls a good distance. The rest I hit about 10 yards or so... I either hit the dirt or fanned the ants the rest of the time.

This was the first time I got to see the base. This is the Brig where Pete works. There are several gates along the road around it where they can lock down the area in case of an escape. There were hundreds of MRAV's and hummers everywhere.

Lost was great this week!!! I've been a bit bored with it this season, but the last two episodes have been awesome!! I can't talk about any details because mom hasn't watched this season yet. I just finished watching CSI. OMG!!! Everyone has to watch it!! (If you missed it, you can watch it online at cbs.com) BEST EPISODE SO FAR!!!!

Bad weather outside, Great movies on TV

It's been stormy and I'm still trying to get over my funk. A lot of good movies on TV this weekend. I'm currently watching "The Spitfire Grill," one of my longtime favorites. Yesterday, I watched "Father of the Bride 2" and "The Princess Diaries," another one of my all-time favorites. I watched the Sequel today on DVD. "Forrest Gump" is also coming on tonight. Also Saving Private Ryan is on. I love Tom Hanks. Gary Sinise. Both GREAT ACTORS!!! I don't think I've seen a Tom Hanks movie I haven't liked. All of these movies are making me cry, which isn't helping my mood at all, being here by myself. (UPDATE: Wes left work early around 5pm because there was severe weather early this morning. But he was only here about 30 minutes before he had to go back for more. So I'm alone again.)

I'm feeling better, but still can't taste. I can smell a little bit. The garlic salt is coming through now. Litter box is still smell-less. So far, I've eaten half a loaf of bread. My ears seem less stopped up, but not much. It comes and goes I think.

Went to Brandon's pool party yesterday. We were there for about an hour and a half before the thunder and lightning run everybody off. Not much to report, just station gossip. The pool at his apartment is only three feet deep.

Cloverfield is now in my DVD player!!

CLOVERFIELD IS OUT ON TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bobby and Masayo & the twins are coming home next week. I'm (uh uh) sick on Friday. I'm driving down there on Thursday after work. I can't wait!! I'm in desperate need of a vacation!

Okay, I know I'm not the greatest softball player, but it's become increasingly obvious that I have become "that girl." You know, the "older" one who's loyal to the team, is always there and never complains?? (Well, until now.) Since it's a co-ed team and you legally have to have at least 5 girls on the field, they just through one of "us" in the catcher's position. I have been the catcher for every game. All last season and this one. I sit back there and listen to the umpire rant about having to be there on a Sunday and watch as everyone else makes plays and has a good time. I'm tired of it. I am perfectly okay with putting better players in more important positions, but when we are winning by 20 points, it would be nice to be given a chance to do something else. Oh yeah, on a less selfish note, we won both games last week, while playing with only four girls. If we are short one player (at least 5 of each is the minimum), we have to take an "out" every time we bat. So basically we are playing with two outs while the other team plays with three.

Wednesday, Wes and I went back to Barbara Jean's in Mt. Pleasant. I Love Crab Cakes!!! On Thursday we went shoe shopping. (HEHEHE) Wes is a lot pickier than me!! It took him a lot longer than me to pick out his shoes!! (About a dozen pairs and 3 or 4 stores!!) And he says he hates shopping!! I told him I was going to say that!!! :) :) :) :)
We're trying to decide where to fly to for our vacation. (IT'S TWO MONTHS FROM TODAY!!!!) We might fly into another country and take a train into Germany. We're thinking Amsterdam, Zurich or Brussels. It depends on how full the flights are.
