HarborFest 2008

On Saturday, I went to the Charleston Harbor Fest downtown. There were several "tall ships" as well as smaller boats that you could look at. The tall ships were the "Spirit of South Carolina," "Amistad," "Virginia," and a few others. It was free but you had to pay to get on the ships. I didn't pay because I could walk right up to the ships and see nearly everything from the pier. There were also exhibits from local canoe makers and a boat building contest. Here's some pics:

The "Amistad" was the neatest looking one I thought. It looked more like a pirate ship than the others. They are all reproductions of historic ships. The "Spirit Of South Carolina" docks in the harbor and is used for educational trips.

The water taxi that took people from the Maritime Center to Patriots Point (there were other activities over there) was named "Ms. Evelyn."

This frog was sitting at the entrance of the Aquarium.

The port was empty. But there was a Norwegian Cruiseliner in the harbor. Right before I left, it pulled out of the harbor.

I actually hit the ball!!

Pete, Kelly & I went to the Navy Base's driving range today. I have never been to a golf course before. I have never swung a real golf club. I was horrible. Kelly is good. Her sister plays for her school's team. Pete's pretty good too. He laid down two clubs for me as a guide. I think it helped, I don't know. I hit maybe 10 or 12 balls a good distance. The rest I hit about 10 yards or so... I either hit the dirt or fanned the ants the rest of the time.

This was the first time I got to see the base. This is the Brig where Pete works. There are several gates along the road around it where they can lock down the area in case of an escape. There were hundreds of MRAV's and hummers everywhere.

Lost was great this week!!! I've been a bit bored with it this season, but the last two episodes have been awesome!! I can't talk about any details because mom hasn't watched this season yet. I just finished watching CSI. OMG!!! Everyone has to watch it!! (If you missed it, you can watch it online at cbs.com) BEST EPISODE SO FAR!!!!

We got Whoopped!!!

Tomorrow is Pete's Birthday. Wes & I are taking them out to dinner tonight. Yesterday, we drove down to Wadmalaw Island. A tornado hit there last weekend and caused a big ruckus. Several miles of the main road was closed off because of the damage. Some of the large hardwoods that hang over the road were blown over and several houses were destroyed. This is where the Charleston Tea Plantation is. (December Post) We used Wes' press pass to get through, but the road crews were there with huge earth movers and had the road completely blocked. There were huge trees snapped splintered in half. We left and drove all the way to Mt. Pleasant because Wes wanted to eat at Jack's Cosmic Dogs. They are supposed to have the best hot dogs. Traffic was busy and it took forever to get there. We were both starving. We walked in and they had boxes and carts everywhere. The guy behind the counter said they were closed for painting and remodeling. The doors were wide open which was why we couldn't see the closed sign. Wes was dissappointed. We'll probably try again next week. We ended up at Mama Fu's!! :) On the way home, we got stuck in traffic again!

Bad weather outside, Great movies on TV

It's been stormy and I'm still trying to get over my funk. A lot of good movies on TV this weekend. I'm currently watching "The Spitfire Grill," one of my longtime favorites. Yesterday, I watched "Father of the Bride 2" and "The Princess Diaries," another one of my all-time favorites. I watched the Sequel today on DVD. "Forrest Gump" is also coming on tonight. Also Saving Private Ryan is on. I love Tom Hanks. Gary Sinise. Both GREAT ACTORS!!! I don't think I've seen a Tom Hanks movie I haven't liked. All of these movies are making me cry, which isn't helping my mood at all, being here by myself. (UPDATE: Wes left work early around 5pm because there was severe weather early this morning. But he was only here about 30 minutes before he had to go back for more. So I'm alone again.)

I'm feeling better, but still can't taste. I can smell a little bit. The garlic salt is coming through now. Litter box is still smell-less. So far, I've eaten half a loaf of bread. My ears seem less stopped up, but not much. It comes and goes I think.

Went to Brandon's pool party yesterday. We were there for about an hour and a half before the thunder and lightning run everybody off. Not much to report, just station gossip. The pool at his apartment is only three feet deep.

tasteless

Went to the doctor today. Not being able to taste, smell and having limited hearing kind of got to me! Apparently I have some type of infection. I have fluid behind my ears, causing my senses to go out. Not smelling is somewhat unnoticeable, but I've tested it. Garlic Salt, cheese, stinky fish food, old spaghetti sauce, the litter box..... nothing. It's odd, but kind of nice. I sniffed Pheobe's litter box (before I cleaned it) and I smelled nothing! Not tasting anything is bothering me though. I feel like I'm wasting food. I can't enjoy it. Wes made me breakfast Thursday morning. He said it was good. We had pizza last night. Nothing. So I'm basically forcing myself to eat because I have to to stay alive. I might as well chew on multi-vitamins until it comes back. Maybe we'll save money! While waiting on the pharmacy to fill my drugs, I thought, "Hey I'll go get me a Quiznos! Wait, I can't taste it!!"
My hearing is the most annoying thing. I feel like I'm in a glass phone booth and everything and everyone else is outside. I'm struggling to listen through the glass. They pop often as well. I'm constantly swallowing to try to clear them out like I'm on an airplane that's climbing and climbing and never equals out. (Chewing gum doesn't work either). It really bothers me at night when I'm trying to sleep. Anyway, hopefully the meds will get rid of all this. Then I'll take Wes out to Gilligan's and have a feast!!

Tomorrow, (health pending) I'm going to Brandon's (producer) birthday pool party. There aren't any softball games this weekend because it's Mother's Day. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see my Mumm. So...

sick....

I feel like crap. My head hurts. I'm congested. My throat hurts. I have already coughed up one lung, working on the other. I left work early today and crawled back in bed with Wes. I started feeling sick on Saturday, but felt better on Sunday. Yesterday it all went downhill. This morning I felt like I had a fever. I am slowly feeling better this afternoon, but I'm still working on that lung. Hopefully, I'll feel better tomorrow. I'll go to the doctor tomorrow if I'm not any better.

We lost both softball games on Sunday. I didn't play the first one because we had plenty of girls. I played second base for half the second game. It's about time I did something else. Unfortunately, the first ball that came to me popped up and hit my wrist. I have a nice warwound with the stitching from the ball nicely protrayed. The redness is going away and the bruise is coming through now. Yea. We aren't playing this weekend, but we have THREE games on the 18th. One is makeup for two weeks ago when it got rained out.
